Relief Road Maps

Students picked their favorite place in the world, or the place that meant the most to their family. They found the map on Mapquest and copied the roads in order to make a line composition. Then, they added twisted up paper towels dunked in glue to line the roads. To give a texture to the entire canvas, they painted toilet paper over the entire composition. The next step was to paint acrylics over the roads and background only using 3 colors. Finally, using black oil paint, they covered the canvas in oil and wiped off the excess with a rag to create and antiqued look. Voila!
